Please refer to F.Ball and Co. LTD literature for full adhesive information.

Styccobond B95 adhesive for installation of wooden / laminate floor coverings over our MuteMat® OSF range, and although adhesive does not provide any immediate soundproofing benefit, its role in the system is still important. When you install a wooden flooring for example or composite flooring, made up of many layers, moisture over time will begin to warp the flooring. When the flooring warps it lends itself to ‘slapping’ against the flooring, causing a form of impact noise that is difficult to reduce without replacing. Adhesive helps to reduce this warping and to keep all composite levels in-check and to satisfy Building Control requirements.

Adhesive 15kg

Covers: Up to 30m2 with a 3mm bed.

Weight: 15kg

For: Homes, workplaces, industrial developments, and specialist audio environments.

Compliance: Compliant with both Part E Building Regulations (England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland).*

Installation: To be used with all over screed adhesive applications please see our 'Install' tab below.

Where: Creating an even bed of adhesive from 3mm to 1.5mm, this is achieved by angling the trowel at 45 degrees

To be used ourMuteMat® 2, MuteMat® 3 and MuteBarrier™ range when applying to timber floors to satisfy Building Control (with Part E Building Regulations) and the installation of rigid floor finishes such as laminate, engineered wood, luxury vinyl tiles and ceramic tiles.

More Information

Adhesive 15kg tub is used in conjunction with our MuteMat® range when applying to timber surfaces, and for applying timber over boards for the use of MuteMat® 2, MuteMat® 3 and MuteBarrier™ range, and to where any requires a timber over boarding.

Although adhesives do not directly improve the soundproofing performance, it does prevent the bowing of timber that could cause a ‘slapping’ effect on the flooring. It also prevents any movement in the flooring that could lead to cracking of fragile joins in timber finishes on the tongue-and-groove fitting and tearing of any vinyl.

  • 15kg tub, coverage estimate of 30m2 using a 3mm notched trowel.
  • Suitable for use with Mass-Loaded Vinyl and Rubber and Foam materials bonding to timber, these include our MuteMat
  • Solvent-free, non-staining with no toxic substances
  • Non-flammable
Adhesive Tub 15KG is our timber adhesive for installation of our MuteMat™ range, and although adhesive does not provide any immediate soundproofing benefit, its role in the system is still important.

Installation Guide

Woven Carpet with MuteMat™ 2 and MuteMat™ 3

When installing a Woven Carpet alongside Building Control’s advice under Part E Building Regulations, you will want to confirm the requirement of adhesives. If it mentions that it is to be ‘Fabric of the structure’ or any other term, or specifies the use of adhesive, then you may require the following.

  • If you are reinstalling the subfloor, make sure you have your
  • Perimeter Flanking Band FB8 in place.
  • Line perimeter of the room with Carpet Gripper Strip 1.2m Self Adhesive , leave a 2-5mm gap from the ‘Flanking Band’ and apply Acoustic and Intumescent Sealant 900ml.
  • Bond MuteMat® to the timber floor with a 3mm bed using our Adhesive 15Kg.
  • Tape all joints.
  • Apply Woven Carpet over the top, often no adhesive required, and fit to Carpet Gripper Strips.
  • Apply skirting board by bending and cutting the ‘Flanking Band’ to conceal edges of the Carpet.
Engineered, Laminate and other Timber finishes with our MuteMat™ 2 and MuteMat™ 3

These finishes often require an overboard to the MuteMat® to protect the fragile nature of these finishes. It is primarily the concern of the tongue-and-groove fittings on top of a compressible material that we are protecting here. Some may not require an over boarding, but we would advise testing on a small area prior.

  • If you are reinstalling the subfloor, make sure you have your Perimeter Flanking Band FB8 extended to cover this area, and enough to butt all floor layers.
  • Bond MuteMat® to the timber floor using Adhesive 15Kg with a 3mm bed to apply successfully, with the perimeter MuteMat butted against the ‘Flanking Band’.
  • Tape all joints.
  • Bond 6mm ply minimum, or 9mm ply if requested, by using Adhesive 15Kg with a 3mm bed.
  • Install wooden floor over the top. There is often no adhesive required unless specified by the manufacturer, and fit up to ‘Flanking Band.’
Vinyl, Luxury Vinyl Tile and other delicate floorings

These flooring, especially Luxury Vinyl Tile, Vinyl and ‘Lino’, are prone to causing slight folds and tearing, so we always recommend these to be bonded to an overboard. Ceramic tiling, for example, will often require a mortar bed on the top of the overboard, please let us know if you plan to use these materials in advance to assure there are no additional requirements for a successful installation.

  • If you are reinstalling the subfloor, make sure you have your Perimeter Flanking Band FB8 around the perimeter with enough to received all flooring layers butt up against it.
  • Bond MuteMat® to the timber floor using Adhesive 15Kg with a 3mm bed to apply successfully, with the perimeter MuteMat butted against the ‘Flanking Band’.
  • Tape all joints.
  • Bond 9mm ply minimum, or thicker if required, by using Adhesive 15Kg with a 3mm bed, making sure to butt this up to the ‘Flanking Band’
  • Apply a 1.5-3mm bed to ply overboard or other over boarding, to have a secure fit of flooring to avoid tear.
  • If you are applying a Ceramic or specialist stone flooring, or anything similar, please let us know so we can adjust for a suitable mortar bed.
  • Apply skirting board by bending and cutting the ‘Flanking Band’ to conceal edges.

FB8 Flanking Band

Dimensions: 50m x 8mm x 150mm

Weight: 2kg

For: Homes, workplaces, industrial developments, and specialist audio environments.

Compliance: Compliant with both Part E Building Regulations (England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland).*

Installation: Please see our installation tab below.

Where: For use with the installation of rigid flooring to create a buffer, special focus on decoupling the floor to ensure best acoustic performance.

When installation our MuteMat™ flooring systems, it is essential to line the perimeter of each room when installing a new subfloor, or installing any hard floor finishes.

More Information

Perimeter Flanking Band – FB8 is an absolute essential in floor soundproofing systems and one that is often overlooked. Perimeter Flanking Bands are to line the perimeter of any room that is using rigid materials that would come into contact with the walls. It acts as a buffer, one that reduces Flanking Transmission, by creating a barrier between floor and wall. It is to be installed along with any installation of a new subfloor in timber builds, even if you plan to install a woven carpet. It is for when you are installing any hard floor finish such as the examples below. These are because a timber overboard is required with some of our flooring options.

  • Engineered wood
  • Laminate
  • Luxury vinyl tile
  • Vinyl
  • Ceramics

Screeding also benefits from the use of a Flanking Band as it helps to decouple the new floating screed from being in immediate contact with the walls.

Information

  • 8mm x 150mm x 50m
  • Vital decoupling for flooring systems to separate floor and wall
  • Suitable for concrete screeding applications, and when installing hard floor finishes
  • Also suitable for timber structures when installing a new subfloor, and when installing hard floor finishes
  • Closed cell foam structure
  • Plastic apron to keep an airtight seal with adhesive
Perimeter Edging Strip should be applied around the perimeter of each room to where hard flooring comes in to contact with the adjacent wall, so with the fitting of new timber flooring it should be installed at joist level to the final floor finish level, in acoustic under screeding in concrete constructions, you will want to make sure full coverage is available to reduce contact with the adjacent concrete walls.
When all floor layers are butt against the Perimeter Edging Strip it reduces flanking transmission by creating a barrier between for and wall for impact sound to transfer in to, instead of directly in to the adjacent walls – helping to improve the soundproofing quality of the floor. Negating this can lead to failure of acoustic tests in most cases and is difficult and costly to fix in retrospect.
It requires bonding to the wall to make sure it has a secure fit, then the plastic apron with the self-adhesive strip is applied to the floor to create an L shape.

Installation Guide

Install Perimeter Flanking Band where there are to be rigid surfaces coming into contact with the wall.

Screeding will also be in the same application.

Carpet Gripper Strip S/A

Carpet Gripper Strip (Self-Adhesive) is used under carpet gripper rods under gripper rods to raise them to the correct height. Each one comes with a Self-Adhesive backing that can be applied to most sub-floor materials for a quick and easy installation.

These are essential for use with our MuteMat range, this is because their heights are found above 10mm, and this will leave a dip around the perimeter of the room when you are installing the Gripper Rod directly to the floor. Their installation is purely aesthetical, and to level the flooring.

Information

  • 5mm x 30mm x 10m.
For raising Gripper Rods to an appropriate height, helping to avoid dips around the perimeter.
  • Self-adhesive backing for a straightforward install.
  • Does NOT include the gripper rod, these will need to be sourced independently.

Installation Guide

Make sure to peel the paper covering off to expose the self-adhesive face, be careful not to pull off this self-adhesive in the process.

Carpet Gripper Strip must be installed on to a clean surface, one that is debris and oil free, so that it remains in place.

Gripper Rods to be tack-nailed into the Carpet Stripper Strip to hold it in place.

Specialist Acoustic Mineral Wool for Part E Building Regulations Compliance

Knauf Acoustic Mineral Wool (RS60) (60kg per m3) is high-density acoustic mineral wool that is used to treat the open spaces, or cavities, between flooring joists, stud-frame walls and battened ceilings. As Acoustic Mineral Wool is a fibrous material, it helps to lessen sound energy by turning it into heat, helping to decrease the remaining noise ‘bouncing’ around inside the cavity and amplifying. As a standalone product, it is only effective against very light background noise issues. We recommend Knauf Acoustic Mineral Wool to be used as part of a system when a cavity is created or existing.

Acoustic Mineral Wool will also help to prevent Flanking Transmission adjacent cavities. Any soundproofing system fitted without this material will not achieve its complete acoustic performance and may fall short of expectations or essential acoustic regulations.

Acoustic Mineral Wool has a greater density than thermal wool, and this is evident in their slab appearance. The reduction as an acoustic insulation material comes as an absorptive rating NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) which differs for each thickness. This means that it is an absorptive material as opposed to a dense soundproofing product. You will find all acoustic systems that Acoustic Mineral Wool is featured in by selecting the ‘Systems’ tab above. Here you will see how vital it is!

Information

  • A crucial component for all soundproofing systems with joists, battens, acoustic cradles or stud-frames
  • To be used in cavities to provide optimum soundproofing performance for all systems
