Acoustic Design and Testing for Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle

Located in the heart of South Kensington, directly opposite London’s Natural History Museum, Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle is one of London’s most prestigious international schools. NOVA Acoustics was commissioned to support a wider programme of classroom improvements across the campus, delivering a complete acoustic solution including onsite testing, acoustic design consultancy, and the supply and installation of acoustic treatment systems.

Working within a live educational environment required careful coordination and phased scheduling to minimise disruption to staff and students, while ensuring each teaching space achieved improved acoustic performance and speech clarity.

Acoustic Testing

NOVA Acoustics carried out detailed onsite acoustic testing and assessments across multiple classrooms throughout the school to evaluate reverberation levels, speech intelligibility, and overall acoustic performance within the teaching spaces.

Following the testing phase, our team developed tailored acoustic treatment recommendations designed to improve classroom acoustics while remaining sympathetic to the existing interiors throughout the campus. The proposed solutions focused on creating clearer, more comfortable learning environments that support communication, concentration, and day-to-day teaching activities.

Acoustic Panel Installation

Following the successful completion of the acoustic testing and design phase, NOVA Acoustics was subsequently commissioned to supply and install acoustic treatment solutions across more than 30 classrooms throughout the school.

The project involved the installation of high-performance Class A acoustic wall panels designed to significantly reduce reverberation and improve speech clarity for both teachers and students. Works were carefully coordinated around the operational requirements of the school to ensure installations could be completed efficiently and with minimal disruption to daily activities.

The completed treatments have helped create calmer, more acoustically balanced teaching environments across the campus, improving overall classroom comfort and usability. Following the success of the initial phase of works, NOVA Acoustics is expected to return later this year to support a further programme of acoustic improvement works at the school.
