MuteMat® OSF 750-05 for Part E Building Regulations Compliance

Achieving good levels of Sound Insulation to ensure you pass your sound test and achieve Part E compliance can seem a daunting task. We have put together a myriad of commonly used soundproofing wall and soundproofing floor solutions, with the simple aim of achieving passing your Part E sound test. We have selected a range of products which we have tested frequently and are confident in their onsite performance. So look no further your sound testing, acoustic design and product supplier is looking right at you.

MuteMat® OSF 750-05 is the highly effective and slimline resilient layer available for managing the reduction of impact noise in over screed concrete constructions. Its recycled rubber-mix content is refined from over 12 tires for each roll, helping to reduce the impact on the planets ever-growing carbon footprint. Its density which results in minimal compression is a key component to providing a robust flooring even when it is subjected to high loads, giving you a long lasting and effective solution that can receive a wide range of floor finishes, with no requirement for an overlay, this includes delicate flooring finishes such as ceramic tiling. If you are seeking soundproofing materials for Timber constructions or looking to achieve even greater impact reduction, we would recommend our MuteMat® 2 or MuteMat® 3 for reduction of both airborne and impact noises.

Sound proofing timber sub-floors (joist constructions with ply, MDF or other wooden sub floorings against impact noise often requires a compressible sound insulation material. MuteMat® OSF 750-05 is not suited for soundproofing against impact noises such as footsteps, moving of furniture or isolation of household hoods in timber constructions because of its density – it’s properties make it perfect for use in concrete structures. Take a look at MuteMat® 2 or MuteMat® 3 for floor soundproofing in timber structures.
When a residential or commercial property, existing or new build is subject to Part E Building Regulations or Scottish Building Regulations – the soundproofing materials on the floor will often require bonding – you will want to confirm this with Building Control and your acoustic testing engineer.
When laminate, engineered wood or tiling is being considered as a final floor finish, it is often difficult to find a floor sound proofing option that does not involve using additional over boarding such as ply of MDF to support them, which can increase final costs and require further work. MuteMat OSF™ 750-05 can receive all these flooring options directly on top, you will need to use a Perimeter Edging Strip around the perimeter of each room to butt all floor layers against, as negating this can cause impact noise to transfer into walls leading to Flanking Transmission.
Luxury Vinyl Tiling requires a robust floor soundproofing solution that keeps it from being damaged while still offering high sound insulation results against impact noise, and this is what MuteMat® OSF 750-05 provides, it doesn’t require any additional overboard and most Luxury Vinyl Tiles can be bonded directly to the top with adhesive.
When it comes to areas that have high volumes of moisture and vapour, it is essential to use soundproofing materials that cannot be compromised by moisture. MuteMat® OSF 750-05 is an excellent option as it is not affected by water, mould or fungi and still allows almost any floor finish to be applied on top, it is also ideal for large residential and commercial projects, as well as being high performing to satisfy Part E Building Regulations in concrete structures.
MuteMat® OSF 750-05 is best cut with a fresh Stanley blade and a straight edge or metal ruler, always cut away from your body and behind the straight edge.

Installation Guide

MuteMat® OSF 750-05 requires a Perimeter Edging Band around the perimeter of the room to allow floor layers to adjoin to, helping to reduce the effect of Flanking, which can often be the cause of failures regarding Part E Building Regulations. You will also want to use a Blue Cloth Tape to tape the joins together.
Ceramic / Porcelain Tiles

MuteMat® OSF 750-05 to concrete/screed substrate, prime the substrate first with roller coat of ARDEX P82, allow to cure, then bond MuteMat® OSF 750-05 using either ARDEX S 28 or ARDEX X 7001 Mictrotec.

If bonding MuteMat® OSF 750-05 to a timber substrate, Ardex AF200 should be used.

When you come to lay the tiles, you should prime MuteMat® OSF 750-05 with ARDEX P82, then bed the tile into either ARDEX S28 or ARDEX X 7001 Microtec.

Flexi grout should be considered
