More Information

Adhesive 15kg tub is used in conjunction with our MuteMat® range when applying to timber surfaces, and for applying timber over boards for the use of MuteMat® 2, MuteMat® 3 and MuteBarrier™ range, and to where any requires a timber over boarding.

Although adhesives do not directly improve the soundproofing performance, it does prevent the bowing of timber that could cause a ‘slapping’ effect on the flooring. It also prevents any movement in the flooring that could lead to cracking of fragile joins in timber finishes on the tongue-and-groove fitting and tearing of any vinyl.

  • 15kg tub, coverage estimate of 30m2 using a 3mm notched trowel.
  • Suitable for use with Mass-Loaded Vinyl and Rubber and Foam materials bonding to timber, these include our MuteMat
  • Solvent-free, non-staining with no toxic substances
  • Non-flammable
Adhesive Tub 15KG is our timber adhesive for installation of our MuteMat™ range, and although adhesive does not provide any immediate soundproofing benefit, its role in the system is still important. When you install a wooden flooring for example or composite flooring, made up of many layers, moisture over time will begin to warp the flooring. When the flooring warps it lends itself to ‘slapping’ against the flooring, causing a form of impact noise that is difficult to reduce without replacing. Adhesive helps to reduce this warping and to keep all composite levels in-check and to satisfy Building Control requirements.

Installation Guide

Woven Carpet with MuteMat™ 2 and MuteMat™ 3

When installing a Woven Carpet alongside Building Control’s advice under Part E Building Regulations, you will want to confirm the requirement of adhesives. If it mentions that it is to be ‘Fabric of the structure’ or any other term, or specifies the use of adhesive, then you may require the following.

  • If you are reinstalling the subfloor, make sure you have your
  • Perimeter Flanking Band FB8 in place.
  • Line perimeter of the room with Carpet Gripper Strip 1.2m Self Adhesive , leave a 2-5mm gap from the ‘Flanking Band’ and apply Acoustic and Intumescent Sealant 900ml.
  • Bond MuteMat® to the timber floor with a 3mm bed using our Adhesive 15Kg.
  • Tape all joints.
  • Apply Woven Carpet over the top, often no adhesive required, and fit to Carpet Gripper Strips.
  • Apply skirting board by bending and cutting the ‘Flanking Band’ to conceal edges of the Carpet.
Engineered, Laminate and other Timber finishes with our MuteMat™ 2 and MuteMat™ 3

These finishes often require an overboard to the MuteMat® to protect the fragile nature of these finishes. It is primarily the concern of the tongue-and-groove fittings on top of a compressible material that we are protecting here. Some may not require an over boarding, but we would advise testing on a small area prior.

  • If you are reinstalling the subfloor, make sure you have your Perimeter Flanking Band FB8 extended to cover this area, and enough to butt all floor layers.
  • Bond MuteMat® to the timber floor using Adhesive 15Kg with a 3mm bed to apply successfully, with the perimeter MuteMat butted against the ‘Flanking Band’.
  • Tape all joints.
  • Bond 6mm ply minimum, or 9mm ply if requested, by using Adhesive 15Kg with a 3mm bed.
  • Install wooden floor over the top. There is often no adhesive required unless specified by the manufacturer, and fit up to ‘Flanking Band.’
Vinyl, Luxury Vinyl Tile and other delicate floorings

These flooring, especially Luxury Vinyl Tile, Vinyl and ‘Lino’, are prone to causing slight folds and tearing, so we always recommend these to be bonded to an overboard. Ceramic tiling, for example, will often require a mortar bed on the top of the overboard, please let us know if you plan to use these materials in advance to assure there are no additional requirements for a successful installation.

  • If you are reinstalling the subfloor, make sure you have your Perimeter Flanking Band FB8 around the perimeter with enough to received all flooring layers butt up against it.
  • Bond MuteMat® to the timber floor using Adhesive 15Kg with a 3mm bed to apply successfully, with the perimeter MuteMat butted against the ‘Flanking Band’.
  • Tape all joints.
  • Bond 9mm ply minimum, or thicker if required, by using Adhesive 15Kg with a 3mm bed, making sure to butt this up to the ‘Flanking Band’
  • Apply a 1.5-3mm bed to ply overboard or other over boarding, to have a secure fit of flooring to avoid tear.
  • If you are applying a Ceramic or specialist stone flooring, or anything similar, please let us know so we can adjust for a suitable mortar bed.
  • Apply skirting board by bending and cutting the ‘Flanking Band’ to conceal edges.
