Acoustic Design and Testing for Office Pods

NOVA Acoustics Ltd was appointed to deliver detailed acoustic design and testing for a series of modular Office Pods, developed in collaboration with Panel UK. These pods were designed to provide quiet, private spaces within open-plan office environments—spaces where employees can focus, take calls, or hold meetings without disruptive background noise.

Project Overview

Open-plan offices are known for their collaborative energy, but they also present significant acoustic challenges. Unwanted noise from conversations, equipment, and movement can reduce productivity and increase stress. The goal of this project was to create high-performance acoustic pods that offer meaningful sound insulation and speech privacy, without compromising on aesthetics or usability.

NOVA Acoustics was engaged to support the project from concept through to post-installation testing, ensuring that the pods met stringent acoustic performance criteria set by the end users.

Scope of Acoustic Work

Comprehensive Acoustic Design Review
We assessed the pod structure, materials, and layout to identify opportunities for improving sound insulation and reverberation control. This included evaluating wall assemblies, door seals, ventilation paths, and internal finishes.
In-Situ Acoustic Testing
We conducted real-world sound insulation tests on completed pods to verify performance against target criteria. This helped validate the design and provided assurance to stakeholders.
Performance Optimisation
Based on test results, we advised on refinements to improve acoustic isolation—such as upgrading panel densities, sealing gaps, and introducing absorptive surfaces.
